Sustainable OR 2011 - Summary of results

The OR 2011 was accompanied by the project 'Sustainable OR 2011', with the aim to minimize the greenhouse gas emissions of the conference by giving recommendations to the event organization and the participants and organizing an awareness programme during the conference. Moreover, the conference was evaluated concerning its greenhouse gas emissions; the summary of the results

As communicated beforehand, the conference organization has compensated for the emissions caused by accommodation, catering, infrastructure and materials, which amount to approx. 45 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents. OR 2011 in Zurich

All members of the OR/MS community are invited to participate in the OR 2011 in Zurich, Switzerland.

This international conference of the three German speaking OR societies GOR, ÖGOR and SVOR is under the patronage of the Swiss OR Society (SVOR). The conference hosts at the same time the respective annual meetings of the three OR societies.

Sustainable OR 2011

Our special concern for this year’s conference is to assume responsibility for the external effects the OR 2011 event may have on environment and climate. In cooperation with the Center for Integral Logistics and the Institute for Sustainable Development of the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) we have set up the project 'Sustainable OR 2011'.

Our major goals are to evaluate the carbon footprint of the event and to minimize emissions by implementing organizational standards and giving participants tangible recommendations. We will compensate for a part of the conference’s footprint by supporting carbon offset projects with myclimate.
