Swissport – Guided Tour at the Zurich Airport

Airports are highly complex organizations involving various challenging optimization problems, many of them having been tackled by the Operations Research community for a long time. This guided tour will give you a glimpse behind the scenes of the daily operations at Swissport, the largest Ground Handling Service Provider worldwide.

After passing the security control for accessing the Airside Center, you will get introduced to different stations of Swissport, including Check-In, Gate, Transfer and Special Assistance services. Have you ever considered what happens with your baggage after check-in? You will have the opportunity to follow ‘your’ bag into the sophisticated Baggage Sorting Area with its labyrinth of possible routings and processing steps. You will see the X-Ray system and the security checks, and stay underground for a while to follow the way of the baggage. After this special experience you will pass the tunnel to the Midfield where you will see further interesting aspects of airport operations. This exciting tour will take approximately two hours and will be entirely by foot.
