Our efforts for a Sustainable OR 2011

Catering

• Instead of bottled water we will provide you with fresh filtered tap water (highest drinking water quality).
• We will serve pure organic, fair traded and freshly brewed coffee. The coffee cream is organic and the sugar fair traded.
  
• The catering company serving the food at the campus is highly committed to sustainability, preferring regional and seasonal products. Whenever possible these requirements are also applied to the food served at the two events outside the campus.
• Food and drinks will be served in reusable dishes.

Venue/ Accommodation

• The recommended hotels are located within walking distance of the conference site or easily accessible by public transport (all participants will get a ticket for Zurich public transport system for the entire conference period).

Conference Materials

• We abandoned printed posters and leaflets besides the small flyers, which were produced climate neutral (i.e. compensated with myclimate).
• Most of the conference rooms are equipped with blackboards, there will be no additional flipcharts or white boards.

Infrastructure

• For heating, ventilating and air conditioning of the campus buildings we utilize energy recovery ventilation, an energy-efficient system that reclaims energy from exhaust airflows.
• Another energy-efficient technology, which is based on a cold storage system, is used for additional cooling of the large lecture rooms in the hot season.
  
  

The Conference will be evaluated with respect to its carbon footprint; a part of this footprint will be compensated with carbon offset projects. The results of the survey will be published on the OR 2011 web site.
