How can you make a contribution?

Travel

• Travel activities account for the main part of the carbon footprint of an international conference. Thus, you as a participant can make a great contribution towards a more Sustainable OR 2011 by choosing environmentally compatible means of transportation. You can compare the different travel options regarding CO2 emissions by using tools such as routeRank (incl. booking tool) or EcoPassenger (considers also other environmental impacts).
• If possible travel by train, e.g. with one of the many overnight or express connections to Zurich.
• You can also compensate for the carbon dioxide related effects of your journey by supporting projects which reduce climate-impacting emissions, e.g. with the non-profit organization myclimate.
• If possible combine other private or business activities near Zurich with the conference.

Venue/ Accommodation

• Please book a recommended hotel within walking distance (< 1 km: Hotel du Théâtre, Rütli Sorell Hotel, Hotel Basilea, Hotel Adler, Hotel Alexander, Hotel Comfort Inn Royal, Hotel Altstadt).
• Find out more how to be a sustainable hotel guest.
• Please recycle PET bottles in the special PET containers you will find throughout the campus and use the waste paper bins in the large conference rooms.
  

Conference materials

• Instead of printed versions of the book of abstracts, by default the abstracts will be provided on USB sticks.
• If you wish, you can also purchase a printed copy of the book of abstracts. However, we recommend you to primarily work with the electronic version and to print only those documents you really require as a hard copy, of course double-sided and on 100% recycled paper.
